Core Roles and Functions of the Ministry of Works as per approved Instrument are as follows:

• Formulation of policies, plans and strategies towards development;
• Upgrading and management of the construction sector covering short, medium and long term;
• Setting standards and monitoring of quality compliance in construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of Roads, Airports, Government Buildings and Government Vehicles;
• Supervision and Monitoring of Airport designs, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of Trunk and Regional Roads and Bridges;
• Provision of maintenance and repair of Government owned vehicles, Plant and Equipment;
• Provision of Ferry Services, Equipment Hire, Electrical, Electronics, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning services; and
• Supervision of Axle Load Control and Road Safety.
